As New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro went down with a knee injury, they called upon their backup net minder Joey MacDonald. With only 15 games of NHL experience under his belt, the almost rookie stepped into the starting role. After a 2-4-1 record while in net, MacDonald has gone 5-2-1 in his last 8 games, including a 2-1 shoot out victory over the Vancouver Canucks Monday night. These wins did not come easy with the Islanders allowing an average of 32.8 shots per game. However, MacDonald has been a brick wall with an impressive save percentage of .935 in his last 8 games.
